Quick Details
Why is this charter unique?
Due to the 2023 Halibut fishing regulations we are no longer allowed to offer “traditional” charter halibut fishing trips on any Tuesdays between June 20th and August 15th, HOWEVER, we can still offer Halibut fishing charters for you on those Tuesdays.
How can we do this?
Central Charters has leased Commercial Halibut quota (known as IFQs), using the Federally managed GAF (Guided Angler Fish) program we are able to convert those IFQ pounds into individual halibut. What this means is we are able to take you on a chartered fishing trip for halibut on days when the rest of the charter fleet cannot. For instance on the closed Tuesdays between June 20th and August 15th of this year. This is because you are keeping halibut that are part of the commercial fishing annual quota and not the sport fishing annual quota.
A few more things to know about this new & exciting trip!
Commercial halibut IFQs are very limited and once converted to GAF the number of halibut they allow us to retain is also limited. Due to the very high cost of IFQs these GAF halibut charters are slightly more expensive than a “traditional” halibut charter on a normally open day. However, it does allow you the flexibility to fish more days and fish on days that better fits your schedule. It also does not hold you to the same size restrictions as a “traditional” halibut charter, meaning there is no size or weight restrictions on the retained halibut. We have leased the top end of allowed GAF Halibut for the season. In an effort to maximize the number of guests who have the opportunity to go fishing on these “traditionally” closed days there is a limit of one halibut of any size per person on this trip. Due to the one halibut per person limit we are targeting above average halibut for this trip.
The Bella Vita and what she offers!
The Bella Vita is a custom built 32′ Bayweld vessel crafted right here in Homer Alaska. The Bella Vita features a spacious back deck and twin 300HP Yamaha outboard engines. Inside the comfortable heated cabin is ample seating for 6 passengers with large windows for easy viewing of the great scenery. There is a private restroom on board that is accessed from the back deck. The Bella Vita is outfitted with top of the line fishing gear for Halibut and Rockfish as well as state of the art electronics and navigation equipment for finding those secret spots where all the fish hide.
We offer Halibut only trips, and Halibut & Rockfish combos. A fishing trip on the Bella Vita is sure to be a memory that will last a life time. No experience necessary! Captain David will help you with every aspect of catching fish and having a blast at the same time!
The minimum age allowed for the safety of everyone on board is 8 years old. If you have a family with members younger than 8 please call us to talk about booking a private charter for just your group. By booking a private boat the age limit is more flexible.
